From 1984 through 1991, he served as Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Commerce where he managed the State‚s economic development programs. Appointed by Governor George Deukmejian, Mr. Stewart was responsible for developing and implementing programs to stimulate California‚s economy and create new employment opportunities for California workers. Mr. Stewart held various legislative positions, both in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. He was Chief Consultant for the California Senate Select Committee on Business Development from 1983 to 1984 and Staff Director of the California Senate Minority Leader‚s Office from 1981 to 1983. From 1974 to 1980 he lived in Washington, D.C. where he served on the staffs of several Members of Congress. Mr. Stewart was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Sacramento, California with his wife Diane, and their two daughters, Victoria and Alexandra. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. |
