CMTA road trips to north state's 'Grow Manufacturing' Initiative

Posted by Gino DiCaro, VP, Communications on June 4, 2015

CMTA's successful visit to the north state included manufacturing tours and a luncheon hosted by the impressive "Grow Manufacturing" Initiative. More than 70 people participated in the day's events, creating even more momentum for CMTA's great partnership with the north state. We are all working toward the power of a unified voice for policies to grow the next generation of California manufacturers.  There is more to come on the great companies we met with, videos, etc. but here is a great article from the Chico-Enterprise and a few photos from the day:

From the Chico-Enterprise Record
Manufacturing exec visits Butte County
by Laura Urseny

While her organization has made strides, there’s a long way to go in helping manufacturers in California, according to the new executive of the California Manufacturers and Technology Association.

Dorothy Rothrock visited with a group of manufacturers and suppliers Friday, bringing a team of staff and lobbyists to hear north state concerns. She said her organization’s goal is “to make state laws as reasonable as possible.”

“California is a tough place to do business,” she noted, ticking off taxes, power rates, labor laws and other challenges, but she noted if a business can survive in California, it can survive in any state in the union.

What has changed in California is that legislators don’t see manufacturers as “dirty smokestacks” anymore, but rather a source for good-paying jobs. Even so, existing regulations have manufacturers strapped.
