John Chiang biography: Attorney, former tax law specialist with the Internal Revenue Service and former attorney with the office of the State Controller. JD, Georgetown University Law Center. Honors graduate from the University of South Florida with a degree in Finance. Member of the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles. Received the State Bar of California Board of Governors Pro Bono Service Award and the California Trial lawyers Association President's Award. Elected in 1998, Mr. Chiang, Member of the State Board of Equalization represents the Fourth District serving over 8 million residents of Los Angeles County. He began his career as a Tax Law Specialist with the Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles. Mr. Chiang later served as an attorney with the Office of the State Controller. In his capacity as Board Member, Mr. Chiang has promoted public-private partnerships through community outreach and taxpayer education. Mr. Chiang organized the first Board of Equalization, Franchise Tax Board, and Internal Revenue Service seminar for nonprofit organizations and joined with the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office to hold a tax seminar for religious organizations. He also organized business and labor forums on fighting tax evasion in the "underground economy." |
