California Community College (CCC) Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley has announced the appointment of Sheneui Weber as the new Vice Chancellor for Workforce and Economic Development. Ms. Weber replaces former Executive Vice Chancellor Van Ton-Quinlivan who retired last month.

Vice Chancellor Weber will continue the work started by Ms. Ton-Quinlivan by overseeing the CCC’s Strong Workforce initiative, a program focused on providing more and better career technical education (CTE) to increase social mobility and fuel regional economies with skilled workers. Ms. Weber previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for Advancement and Economic Development at the Long Beach Community College District where she was responsible for the district’s economic and workforce development strategy, programs, operations and public-private partnership development.

CMTA is a long-time partner in the implementation of the Strong Workforce Initiative, having served in 2016 on the Task Force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy to develop the 25 recommendations that led to the implementation of the initial initiative and an annual appropriation of $248 million to spur CTE throughout the 113 college system. Last year, Governor Brown and the Legislature expanded the program to include a K-12 component and appropriated $150,000,000 in annual ongoing career education funding to strengthen the pathways for students from secondary to postsecondary education.

The Strong Workforce Program is part of the CCC’s Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy campaign that is housed under the Workforce and Economic Development Division of the CCC Chancellor’s Office. For more information on Ms. Weber’s background, please see her appointment press release.
