Governor Gavin Newsom appointed recently-elected San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher to fill the open seat on the state California Air Resources Board (ARB) vacated by the retirement of former Supervisor Ron Roberts. Supervisor Fletcher is a former Assemblymember from San Diego and the husband of current Assemblymember and Assembly Appropriations Committee chair Lorena Gonzalez.

Among the 14 voting members on ARB (there are 2 additional ex officio, non-voting members) is one spot held for a representative of the San Diego Air Pollution Control District (APCD). In this case the APCD is composed by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Elected in November, Supervisor Fletcher now adds ARB board member to his supervisorial responsibilities and will help implement air quality and climate policy for California.

Supervisor Fletcher is also a member of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Board of Directors, the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, and the San Diego Association of Governments’ Transportation Committee. Between 2008 and 2012, he served two terms in the State Assembly.

Former Senator Dean Florez, whose term as a Senate appointee to the ARB also expired last month but has yet to be replaced, said "I think Nathan is going to be a fantastic addition, especially for border regions.”

CMTA congratulates Supervisor Fletcher on his appointment and looks forward to working with him to pursue a clean and economically competitive California for all.
