Manufacturers comment on the benefits of NAFTA

Dec. 1, 2017 Sacramento, CA -- California Manufacturers & Technology Association President Dorothy Rothrock made the following statement today regarding the benefits of the current North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA):
"Manufacturers support the effort to modernize NAFTA to improve trade relations and support manufacturing growth in the US. But important NAFTA features have been instrumental in striking the right balance to encourage US production and provide competitive supply arrangements in the region. For example, existing NAFTA requirements on automobile manufacturers to use local suppliers has supported the investment by U.S. automakers and their suppliers of over $9.5 billion in American jobs and production over the past year alone. We should not change provisions that are working well, for Californians and the rest of the country, in an industry that supports seven million American manufacturing jobs. We urge our elected officials to recognize the benefits of NAFTA and keep the automobile industry and other manufacturers growing by maintaining these important provisions in the development of a modernized NAFTA."
