Sacramento, CA- -
The Employment Development Department released its January unemployment rate today, February 28, and California's manufacturing job base declined for the twenty-fifth consecutive month, yielding a staggering 28,000 lost manufacturing jobs. Based on the new North America Industry Classification System, manufacturing employment decreased from 1,617,500 to 1,589,400 jobs. “California's manufacturing community is struggling with increased regulations, taxes and business cost mandates that now average 32 percent higher than the national average. After 25 straight months of job losses, it's apparent that California's hard working citizens are paying the ultimate price,” said CMTA President Jack M. Stewart. In response to the unemployment rate increase, CMTA will participate in a press conference on Monday, March 3 at 11:00 am in the State Capitol, room 317 on repealing some of the largest business cost mandates over the past four years. Senators Chuck Poochigian, Dick Ackerman and Jim Brulte will be on hand to unveil their proposed legislation. “At this rate we will soon lose all of the jobs we gained in the mid-90s economic boom. It is more important than ever that the state's Legislature work to pass real ‘job-maker’ legislation to stimulate the economy and roll back the ‘job-killer’ bills from the previous four years,” concluded Stewart. ### |
