CMTA Welcomes New Tax Lobbyist
Sutton filled the vacancy left by the association’s former tax lobbyist, Carrie Lee Coke, who went to work for the California Municipal Utilities Association. “Important tax legislation looms in the state capitol for California’s manufacturers,” said CMTA president Jack M. Stewart. “Matt’s knowledge of tax policy and his experience working with both sides of the aisle in the capitol will serve our members well.” Sutton comes to CMTA from the American Electronics Association (AeA) where he was Manager of California State Government Affairs. Before his tenure with AeA, he worked for several years in the California Legislature as the Legislative Director for Silicon Valley Assemblyman John Dutra and as a consultant to the Assembly Committee on Information Technology - a committee that served as the policy repository for information technology and the high-tech industry. “Important issues such as a sales tax reduction on manufacturing equipment, tax conformity, treatment of net operating loss, the Manufacturers Investment Credit and settlement confidentiality will be debated in the Capitol this year,” added CMTA chief lobbyist, Dorothy Rothrock. “For this position we needed a highly capable person who understands these critical issues, and we got him.” Sutton graduated from St. Mary’s College of California with a B.A. in Economics and completed his M.A. in Public Policy & Administration at California State University Sacramento. ### |
