STATE MANUFACTURERS WILL ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FOR PERMANENT
INTERNET TAX MORATORIUM
SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Manufacturers and Technology
Association (CMTA) will announce its support today for AB 1784
(Lempert), a proposed Internet tax moratorium extension, by testifying
before the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee at 1:30 p.m.
in room 126 at the State Capitol.
Carrie Lee Coke, CMTA's legislative director for taxation,
will testify on the moratorium's importance to California's manufacturers.
Coke will argue that the state needs a tax system for the Internet
that is predictable and fair, not one that invites onerous and
complicated new taxes.
Jack Stewart, president of CMTA, reacted to the bill by saying,
"The jungle of America's 30,000 individual tax jurisdictions
is cumbersome enough, California should ban these exotic new
types of tax."
AB1784 renews the Internet Tax Freedom Act by extending indefinitely
the state-imposed moratorium, thereby prohibiting state and local
access taxes on the Internet.
