2003 Issues Advocacy:
The next legislative session will be overshadowed by big deficits between state revenues and state spending. Here is a list of CMTA's concentrated efforts to break down the barriers to a healthier business climate:

Tax
» Continue to advocate the benefits of a sales tax reduction on manufacturing and telecommunications equipment.
» Oppose any reduction, suspension, or elimination of the MIC.
» Fend off other attempts to increase taxes on business through the Personal Income Tax, Sales Tax, or Property Tax.

Electricity rates, customer choice
» Continue to advocate for a reallocation of rates and direct access benefits. Alleged market abuses by wholesale generators could impede efforts for a competitve market

Environment
» Streamline regulation of hazardous consumer product wastes to relieve political pressure for product-specific front end fees.

Workers' compensation reform
» Push for offsets and reductions in the recently passsed Workers' Compensation reform law.

Corporate confidentiality
» Fight an attempt to both amend existing law and expand plaintiffs' attorneys ability to discover the research, business plans, and trade secrets of California companies.
