The Senate Appropriations Committee has announced that it will begin sending every bill that requires $50,000 or more in General Fund funding to the Senate "Suspense File".  This is a major decrease in a limitation that has been set at $150,000 for some time.  Bills that require $50,000 or more in funding will only be entertained if financial support is derived from sources other than the General Fund.

According to Senate President pro tem Don Perata (D-Oakland), the limitation has been lowered to help remedy the state's budget deficit.   Bills that have been placed on suspense have until May 23rd to be moved out of the Appropriations Committee.
