By Gino DiCaro, VP, Communications

Capitol Update, April 25, 2008

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is drafting regulatory language addressing the methods of delivery and content of warnings for exposures to listed chemicals in foods. OEHHA is soliciting participation in a stakeholder workgroup to assist in formulating this language.  Several industries most likely to be affected by this proposed regulatory action include:
  • Food Manufacturers
  • Large Grocery Retailers
  • Small Grocery Retailers
  • Environmental Groups
Other groups not identified above may also be invited to participate, including staff at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The workgroup is being formed to advise OEHHA concerning the development of this proposed regulation, but will not have delegated regulatory authority.  The public will be informed of the progress of the workgroup, though workgroup meetings will not be publicly noticed.
