Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed Karen Douglas as the new chair of the California Energy Commission (CEC).  Prior to her appointment as chair, Douglas served as a commissioner and legal representative for the Commission.  She has also worked as Director for the California Climate Initiative at Environmental Defense.  Douglas is a Democrat and her appointment will require Senate confirmation.

Before that, Ms. Douglas spent four years at the Planning and Conservation League as the Natural Resources Director, General Counsel, and most recently, acting Executive Director. She has worked on a broad range of California natural resource and environmental protection issues, including the Imperial Irrigation District / San Diego water transfer, forest policy, and the California Environmental Quality Act.

Karen Douglas has spoken at CMTA Energy conferences. CMTA will be hosting "Energy 2020" at Harveys Hotel in South Lake Tahoe on July 29-31 2009. The conference will explore future options for energy supplies and discuss customer costs, options and impacts.
