The next EPR bill?

Although SB 589 (Alan Lowenthal, D-Long Beach), related to household hazardous waste, passed out of the Senate with no ‘no’ votes, its future in the Assembly may not be so positive. 

According to a recent newsletter by the California Product Stewardship Council, they and members of non-governmental organizations are drafting amendments that would gut the current bill and make it a full-scale extended producer responsibility (EPR) bill.  While such amendments have not yet been taken, we are watching the bill closely as it awaits referral and hearing in the Assembly.
