New appointment to CARB Board

Dr. Alexander Sherriffs, a Fowler family practitioner and clean-air advocate, has been named to the governing board for both the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and the California Air Resources Board.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday announced the appointments for Sherriffs, a 60-year-old Democrat. He replaces Dr. John Telles, who resigned in June.

Sherriffs has been a physician in private practice in Fowler since 1983 and with the Central California Faculty Medical Group since 1985. He has also been a professor at the Fresno campus of University of California, San Francisco since 1983. Sherriffs received his medical degree at the University of California, Davis.

This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation.
