CalRecycle programs move forward

On Tuesday, January 17th, Caroll Montgomery, Director of the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery's (CalRecycle) Administration, conditionally approved both paint and carpet “Extended Producer Responsibility” regulations at the department’s monthly meeting and forwarded them on to the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) for their approval.

Industry representatives at the meeting again expressed concerns that the agency was going far beyond the authority granted to them in statute when they start talking about recycling “rates and dates” for compliance.

At the same meeting, commercial recycling and rigid plastic packaging container regulations were also “rubber stamped” and passed on to OAL.
