The 2012 CMTA Manufacturers Summit will be held Thursday, June 28 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Sacramento Convention Center. The theme is, 'Can California compete for jobs in America's manufacturing renaissance?'

The program will feature Joel Kotkin as our Keynote Speaker.  Joel is one of America's leading demographers, who opines frequently about California politics, demographics and economic issues. Following are links to two recent Kotkin articles.  The first is an interview Kotkin did with the Wall Street Journal on April 21, the second is an article he wrote for City Journal on April 29.

We have also confirmed Bill Watkins, Executive Director of California Lutheran University's Center for Economic Research & Forecasting (CLUCERF), who will present CLUCERF's Quarterly Economic Forecast for California.  California Lutheran is nationally recognized for it's quarterly economic forecasts focusing on the U.S., California and Oregon.

In addition, we will release findings from two CMTA commissioned research projects at the Summit.  The first research project will identify and interview CEO level executives from 75-100 U.S. manufacturing companies who made U.S. investment decisions during 2011.  The research will determine where and why manufacturers made their location decisions and why they chose or didn't choose California.  The second research project will be a detailed economic analysis of AB32, looking at cost impacts on consumers, businesses and government.

The agenda will focus on the issues that make California a difficult location for manufacturers to compete for new industrial investments.
