Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) has appointed Senator Jerry Hill (D-Palo Alto) as the new Chairman of the Senate Environment Quality Committee.  The position became vacant following the surprise announcement by former chair Senator Michael Rubio (D-East Bakersfield) that he was resigning from the state Legislature.

Rubio's departure has raised concerns about the prospects for reform of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)  as he has been a strong proponent of reform.   CMTA will encourage Senator Hill to pursue CEQA reforms needed to promote manufacturing investment and expansion.
