This week Governor Brown announced the appointment of David Lanier as Secretary of the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. He replaces Marty Morganstern, a long-time trusted advisor, who has served as Labor Secretary since 2011. This position requires Senate confirmation.

Since 2011, Mr. Lanier has served as Chief Deputy Legislative Affairs Secretary for Governor Brown. His policy areas included labor, government reform and workers’ compensation. CMTA worked with Mr. Lanier on key policy initiatives, including the adoption of a sales and use tax exemption for manufacturing equipment purchases. We are pleased by this announcement and look forward to working with him in this new capacity.

While Mr. Morganstern will be retiring from his current post, he will continue on as an unpaid Senior Advisor to the Governor.
