Governor's Statement:
Today, the Legislature took action on some of my mid-year budget cuts. Unfortunately, they didn't go nearly far enough.

We are facing an unprecedented problem, and we won't solve it by nibbling around the edges.

We need to bite the bullet now. It's the only way we can avoid worse pain down the road and maintain the State's credit rating.

We all need to be a part of the solution.

I'm encouraged by the growing number of members who fully grasp the importance of significant cuts.

However, those who think we can solve this problem without painful cuts are in a state of denial. The longer we wait, the more painful these cuts will be.

I fully understand the difficulties my budget presents for state and local decision-makers.

But we must summon the courage now to do what is right or we will make a bad problem much, much worse.
