Senator Byron Sher (D-Stanford) has sent a letter to Linda Moulton-Patterson, Chairman of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB), informing her that he is amending his clean-up bill, SB 50, to delay the commencement date on which electronic waste recycling fees are required to be collected from July 1, 2004 to October 1, 2004.

Sher is conceding that the Board of Equalization will not be prepared to take over fee collection until January 1, 2005, and will assign responsibility for fourth quarter 2004 collection to CIWMB.

The Senator stated that there will also be amendments to SB 50 that will make conforming changes to assure a minimum amount of disruption to manufacturers and retailers in transitioning to the new operative date.

CMTA is optimistic that the recommendations suggested by industry in a February 27th meeting will find their way into this clean-up bill.

SB 50 is currently in the Assembly, but has not yet been set for a committee hearing.
