CMTA is encouraging member companies once again to take part in the California Independent System Operators (Cal-ISO) Voluntary Load Reduction Program (VLRP) in an effort to conserve energy in the event of an emergency crisis this summer.

The VLRP is a purely voluntary program that relies upon its participants to reduce their energy consumption by an amount of their choosing during a power emergency.  By involving your company in the program, you are helping to keep the lights on and avoid increased costs that would result from an outage.

While there is no estimate of how much demand relief could be achieved through the VLRP this summer, a similar effort during the energy crisis in 2001 reduced California’s overall energy consumption by 6 percent, which is equivalent to 5,000 megawatts.

In the event of an emergency crisis, CMTA will be contacted by the Cal-ISO and that information will be communicated directly to you through an email.
