On Tuesday, February 18th, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) released the final revision for the Industrial General Stormwater Permit (IGP).

In 1997, SWRCB adopted the existing IGP for regulation of stormwater discharges associated with industrial activity. The existing IGP has expired but remains in effect until a new one is adopted. SWRCB staff initiated an effort to reissue the IGP in 2003, but concerns regarding the role of numeric effluent limitations in stormwater permits halted the effort. In 2006, SWRCB considered a report submitted by a panel of experts. In 2011, SWRCB released a draft IGP for public comment. SWRCB then released subsequent draft permits in 2012 and July 2013 for additional comments.

Comments are once again being sought. They will only accept comments on revisions to the Final Draft Industrial General Permit made since the July 2013 version and must identify the revision by the applicable permit section number. Comments should be sent to:

Jeanine Townsend, Clerk to the Board
    State Water Resources Control Board
    1001 I Street, 24th Floor
    Sacramento, CA 95814

SWRCB will accept public comment through noon, March 4th. They can be e-mailed to:  commentletters@waterboards.ca.gov

Adoption of the Final Draft Industrial General Permit is scheduled for SWRCB’s regularly scheduled Board meeting in April:

    Tuesday, April 1, 2014 – 9:00 a.m.
Joe Serna, Jr. - Cal/EPA Headquarters Building
    Coastal Hearing Room
    1001 I Street, Second Floor
    Sacramento, CA 95814
