California has historically been a high-cost state for workers' compensation. For several years, these costs have been escalating, and the latest numbers show these trends continued into 2012 (the last full year for which system-wide data is available). The Workers' Compensation Action Network (WCAN) infographic below provides some key data points on system costs.

It remains too early to tell how the 2012 legislative reforms (SB 863) will impact these cost trends – you can revisit the WCAN infographic on the status of SB 863 implementation here.
