Indoor heat and illness standards proposed

Capitol Update, March 4, 2016

A new proposal seeks to begin the much anticipated discussion regarding temperature conditions for those working in indoor facilities.

SB 1167 by Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino) requires the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) to propose and submit indoor heat illness and injury prevention standards to the Cal/OSHA Standards Board by July 1, 2017 for adoption.

The targets of her bill are warehouses and factories, a concern for manufacturing. Although the bill is only a study and report, we will be following this discussion closely.
