Last July, Governor Jerry Brown called for an extraordinary session on health care. Legislation introduced under this mantle does not follow the same committee and house deadlines, and hearings have been underway since.

This week, Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León adjourned this special session commending his legislative colleagues for working together to secure major accomplishments.

Of import was the passage of the Managed Care Organization Tax reform package to bring in nearly $8 billion in federal dollars for health services and to fund an increase to Developmental Disabilities Services rates. An additional package of bills resulted in the most expansive tobacco control in over a decade.  ABx2 15 (Susan Eggman-D) the End of Life Option Act, was also passed ensuring Californians have access to humane and compassionate options to limit suffering at the end of life.
