On Thursday, five Senate Democrats took to the floor to call on U.S. Senate Banking Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (AL-R) to vote on the nomination of Mark McWatters to the board of the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im), which is currently lacking the quorum necessary to make larger loans.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (ND-D) countered the GOP’s argument that the Ex-Im focuses assistance on large companies, saying that the Ex-Im mainly helps small- and mid-sized businesses as well as suppliers of the larger corporations aided by the bank. The Hill notes that earlier in the week, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) “sent more than 300 of its members up to Capitol Hill to urge lawmakers to take a vote on McWatters,” with NAM vice president of international economic affairs Linda Dempsey saying, “We support the efforts of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to ensure Ex-Im is operating at full capacity, and urge the Senate to take action on the pending board nomination.”

CMTA support NAM in this effort.
