New Federal Overtime Rule Stalled Before Execution

A federal judge in Texas has issued a temporary injunction to halt the implementation of the new federal overtime laws that would have significantly changed how employers compensate and classify their nonexempt and exempt employees.  This action essentially preserves the existing overtime regulations until the validity of the US Department of Labor’s authority to issue the new rule, and thus the law itself, can be determined.  Consequently, manufacturers can continue to apply current overtime thresholds until a final resolution has been decided.
