The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) has released a report detailing their success in combating fraud in the workers’ compensation system. With the aid of two legislative measures that became effective the first of this year, DIR announced in a press release last week that it has stayed over $1 billion worth of “illegitimate liens” and is in the process of issuing suspension notices to several medical providers who have been convicted of fraud. Eliminating all forms of unlawful activity in the state’s workers’ compensation system will both improve the integrity of the program and aid in managing high costs.
