Senator Ricardo Lara’s (D-Bell Gardens) SB 30 was pulled from its scheduled hearing in the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee on July 12, failing to meet the Assembly deadline for fiscal bills to be referred out of their respective policy committees and to the Appropriations Committee.

SB 30 was a reaction to the President’s plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The bill would have banned California agencies from contracting with any business that contracted to provide any good or service to the federal government to construct the wall. Manufacturers that either directly contracted with the government or indirectly provided equipment or services to businesses that contracted with the government risked being blacklisted due to this political dispute.
