Last Thursday, February 15th, Assemblymember Blanca Rubio (D-West Covina) attended the Thursday Group meeting, sharing her insights from her first year in office, legislative priorities for 2018, and a general openness for working with the business community. In her freshman year, Rubio proved to be helpful on water issues and, according to “CMTA’s 2017 Manufacturing Vote Record”, voted in accordance with CMTA fifty percent of the time.

As background, the Thursday Group, co-chaired by CMTA and the California Chamber of Commerce, was formed in 1997 in response to an increase in environmental legislative proposals whose overreaching applications impacted California’s economic competitiveness. The Thursday Group creates a platform for advocacy groups and associations to coordinate on legislation and regulatory issues related to the environment and climate change. This year, the Thursday Group will be tracking issues related to recycling, hazardous waste facilities/permitting, air quality, and more.
