Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) announced that Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) will take over as Chair of the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee during her latest release of committee membership changes. He replaces Senator Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), who served as the transitional chair during the recent Senate leadership switch, and Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) who had served as chair since 2016.

As Chair of Senate Labor, we expect Senator Lara will continue support for policies that expand California’s already extensive labor protections. CMTA will work with him and all the Members of the Senate Labor Committee to advocate for labor and employment policies that balance workplace safety and protections with operational integrity and flexibility. This will ensure manufacturing's competitiveness that leads to better job opportunities and sustainable careers and supports middle-class families throughout our communities.

Previously, Senator Lara headed the influential Senate Appropriations Committee that determines the fate of hundreds of bills through the evaluation of its fiscal impact upon the state. He is also running for the statewide office of Insurance Commissioner in the 2018 November General Election.
