Ms. Julie Su, California's Labor Commissioner, has been appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to head up the influential Labor and Workforce Development Agency and serve as his Cabinet advisor on labor issues and employment programs for workers and businesses throughout California. Ms. Su will be responsible for overseeing the agency's seven major departments, boards and panels that include such entities as the Department of Industrial Relations, the Workforce Development Board, the Employment Development Department and the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA).

Prior to serving as Labor Commissioner for the past seven years, Ms. Su served as the Litigation Director at Advancing Justice Los Angeles and spent 17 years as a civil rights lawyer with a focus on protecting low-wage workers and immigrant victims of crime and human trafficking. As Labor Commissioner, she launched a statewide campaign in 2014 to combat wage theft and promote understanding of and compliance with California's labor laws for both workers and employers.
